Building a foundation for excellence

AbdulFattah began his banking career as a teller at Saba Islamic Bank in Taiz, Yemen. Even in these early days, he was driven by clear goals and a desire to grow. He moved through various banking departments, steadily building a broad base of experience.

Recognising the importance of professional development from the outset, AbdulFattah sought out opportunities to deepen his expertise. This commitment led him to pursue the Certificate for Documentary Credit Specialists (CDCS) qualification from LIBF (Part of Walbrook Institute London) while still progressing through operational roles. Earning the CDCS early in his career gave him a competitive edge, equipping him with specialist knowledge that set him apart and prepared him for greater responsibilities.

His persistence paid off when, after nearly a decade dedicated to developing his skills, AbdulFattah became head of the trade finance department. Rather than seeing this as a final destination, he viewed it as a springboard for further growth. He continued to seek targeted training, which helped him establish the centralised trade finance department at Saba Islamic Bank’s headquarters.

Knowledge that transforms

"I enjoyed all parts of the CDCS learning experience. It helped me gain a comprehensive picture of trade finance," AbdulFattah reflects. The expertise gained through this qualification gave him the confidence to tackle increasingly complex challenges.

Building on this strong foundation, AbdulFattah enhanced his professional credentials by completing the Certificate in International Trade and Finance (CITF), further broadening his understanding of international trade operations. These qualifications, combined with his practical experience, prepared him for his next career leap.

AbdulFattah successfully established the Trade Finance Department at Alkuraimi Islamic Bank, demonstrating his ability to build functional teams and systems from the ground up. This achievement paved the way for his current role as Deputy General Manager for Support, where he oversees key operational and support functions.

Looking ahead

AbdulFattah recognises how technology is reshaping trade finance, "Trade and transaction banking will definitely evolve in the foreseeable future due to blockchain and AI development," he notes. This insight aligns with current trends where blockchain technology is creating secure, decentralised systems for managing trade finance transactions.
