For over 25 years, CeMAP has been the leading qualification in the mortgage industry, trusted by professionals and employers alike. We’ve made various improvements over the years to ensure we keep the qualification up to date with developments in legislation, latest technology and the needs of learners and the sector. We’re excited to share what we’re doing to make CeMAP more flexible, relevant, and accessible.
The upcoming changes we’re making for new learners from 30 September will:
-
allow learners to study and take assessments by individual unit rather than by full module
-
provide refreshed content to better reflect the evolving needs of the industry
-
offer an enhanced online learning experience to support a range of learning styles and preferences. This includes video and audio clips, case studies, regular assessments, and a free specimen exam paper for each unit
-
provide exams online through Brightspace via remote invigilation– this is the same platform learners access for their studies and gives them full control of their exam schedule.
Rest assured, both the current and updated versions of CeMAP continue to meet FCA standards.
What is changing?
The table below provides an outline of the current CeMAP structure, and the new structure we are introducing from 30 September. There will still be three modules, but for modules one and two, learners will be able to study and be assessed for individual units within the module.
Learners will also take exams online through our Brightspace learning platform. This is the same platform you use for your CeMAP studies. There is more information below about exams on Brightspace.
As part of the updates we are making to CeMAP, we are replacing the current module 1 of the qualification (UKFR) with a new module, Financial Services, Regulation and Ethics (FSRE).
FSRE is already a widely-recognised module, and is included in LIBF’s Diploma for Financial Advisers (DipFA). Replacing UKFR with FSRE creates a consistent foundation in regulation and ethics across LIBF’s regulated qualifications, making it easier for learners to progress through different areas of financial services education. FSRE also provides a more comprehensive and current overview of the UK financial services environment, covering not just regulation but also ethical standards, the role of financial institutions, and the economic context. These are all crucial topics for a modern mortgage adviser.
Having FSRE as a standard introduction module is a major improvement for learners who might want to study other financial services qualifications in the future. Learners who complete FSRE can transfer credits to DipFA. This reduces duplication and study time, and helps learners to gain a broader understanding of the whole financial services sector.

We are introducing these improvements for new learners, but you can still sit the current CeMAP exams up to and including Monday 12 January 2026. Exams under the current structure will continue to be sat through Pearson VUE. If you wish to sit exams under the current structure, we recommend booking early so that you can secure a slot at your preferred time before this date. Pearson VUE offer centre-based exams and exams through remote invigilation.
-
Please register online at this link. You will have until 12 January 2026 to sit the exam(s) with Pearson VUE. If you have not successfully completed the exam(s) by 12 January 2026, we will transfer your registration over to the equivalent module under the new structure. At this point you will also be given access to the new CeMAP study programme on Brightspace. You will have 12 months from the date of transfer to sit the exams you are registered for.
-
From 30 September we will start accepting new registrations for the new structure of CeMAP. The online Brightspace exams will be available from 10 November 2025.
If you have registered in the past for the current version of CeMAP and want to register for the new one between 30 September 2025 and 13 January 2026, please contact Customer Services on customerservices@libf.ac.uk or +44 (0)1227 818609. This is because the self-service online registration system will only allow you to register for the current version.
We can offer exemptions if you have successfully completed modules under the current format. Please see the table below for more information. -
If you register for CeMAP under the new format, you will be able to sit your exam from 10 November 2025 via the Brightspace learning platform. If you are currently registered and wish to swap over to the new version of the module, please contact Customer Services, who will be able to do this for you from 30 September 2025. Specimen papers to support the new exams will be available from 24 October 2025.
-
Yes! You will have total control and will be able to sit your online exams back-to-back or, if you prefer, on separate days – the choice will be yours. Whatever suits you and the way you like to study and be assessed. Please see the information about our remote invigilation on Brightspace below.
-
On 13 January 2026, we will need to transfer any open registrations that you have not yet taken an exam for over to the new structure of the CeMAP qualification. The clock will restart, so we will give you a new 12 months to complete the qualification. If you have purchased any additional support materials for outstanding units, we will make sure you automatically receive equivalent materials for the related units.
-
No – on 13 January 2026 we will automatically transfer your current passes over to the new structure (please see the transition table below). There is nothing you need to do as part of this transition. However, you will need to complete any outstanding units under the new structure to complete the qualification.
-
If you want to complete CeMAP under the current format, you can register online for a resit at this link until 12 January 2026.
Please note that if you have registered but not taken your exams(s) by 12 January 2026, you will be moved to the new CeMAP format on the following day. We will then give you a new 12-month registration period to complete the modules that you have been transferred onto.
To register for the new CeMAP structure between 30 September 2025 and 12 January 2026, you will need to contact our Customer Services team on customerservices@libf.ac.uk or +44 (0)1227 818609 rather than registering online.
If you have completed units or modules from the current version of CeMAP but re-start your studies under the new structure, we may be able to give exemptions for some of the new units. -
If you would like to keep studying UKFR, rather than switch to FSRE, you can do so up until 16 July 2026 when this qualification will be withdrawn. If this is your preference, you must let us know as soon as possible. Please note that your exam will be conducted on our Brightspace platform (via remote invigilation) from 13 January 2026.
Transition and exemptions
We will stop examining the current version of CeMAP on 12 January 2026. From this date you will only be able to sit exams online on Brightspace under the new structure of CeMAP.
If you have completed units or modules from the current version of CeMAP by the date you transfer over to the new format, we can give exemptions for some of the new units.
If you have previously been awarded an exemption for UKFR through recognition of prior learning, this will not automatically convert into an exemption from FSRE under the new format. You will therefore need to complete CeMAP by 12 January 2026 for your UKFR exemption to count. If CeMAP has not been completed by this deadline, you will need to complete FSRE or submit a new recognition of prior learning request if you hold an equivalent qualification for FSRE.
Please refer to the table below, which shows what your current module / unit completions are the equivalent to:
| Current Module | If you have passed: | This is the equivalent to: |
|---|---|---|
CeMAP 1 - UKFR | ITFS and UKFS (both units of CeMAP 1) | CeMAP 1 - FRE1 and FRE2 |
CeMAP 2 - MORT | Unit 3 (MLPP) and Unit 4 (MAPP) | MRT1 |
CeMAP 3 - ASSM | ASSM (CeMAP 3) | ASEW/ASSC (CeMAP 3) |
A new way of taking exams!
Any learners who complete the new version of CeMAP will sit their exams through online invigilation on our Brightspace learning platform. You will be familiar with this as this is where you log in to access your course site.
Remote invigilation on Brightspace offers:
-
Convenience: Sitting your exam via Brightspace also allows for a comfortable and familiar setting, saving time and reducing the stress of travelling to a test centre
-
Ease of access: You can use any PC/laptop to sit your exam
-
No need to book in advance: You can sit your exams whenever you are ready, within your registration period. No pre-booking is required and you can take your exam on any day and at any time.
-
Seamless exam experience: Brightspace offers an intuitive, user-friendly interface with features designed to make your exam experience as smooth as possible. Fully integrated exams remove connectivity issues and are optimised for low-bandwidth environments/intermittent connections - less than 1% of users need support!

No software install: No plug-ins or extensions are required
As you'll need to conduct a 360-degree scan of your testing area immediately before sitting your exam, you will need to ensure that your equipment is in full working order and can be manoeuvred. You are not allowed to take toilet breaks during your exam.
