Chartered Membership is a recognised mark of professionalism for mortgage advisers and trade and transaction banking professionals. Awarded by the London Foundation for Banking & Finance (LFBF) and held alongside your LIBF membership, it demonstrates your commitment to ethical practice, ongoing professional development and high standards throughout your career.

Working alongside LFBF, we’ve introduced a route to Chartered Membership, creating an opportunity for eligible members in specialisms where a Level 6 qualification pathway is not currently available.

Find your route to Chartered Membership

Chartered Membership is available to eligible professionals in mortgage advice and trade and transaction banking, as well as other specialisms where LIBF does not currently offer a Level 6 route to Chartered status.

To achieve Chartered Membership, you'll need to:

✓ hold an eligible LIBF qualification or designation
✓ complete the required annual CPD
✓ complete the Ethics e-learning module
✓ agree to abide by the LIBF Code of Ethics

You could become a Chartered Member as early as 2028.

To stay on track, you'll need to:
- Join as an LIBF member by 1 December 2026 (if you're not already a member)
- Evidence 35 hours of CPD for 2025 and complete 35 hours in 2026 and 2027
- Complete the ethics e-learning module
Once you've completed these steps, you'll be eligible to become a Chartered Member in 2028.
You could become a Chartered Member as early as 2027.

To stay on track, you'll need to:
- Join LIBF by 1 December 2026 (if you're not already a member)
- Evidence 35 hours of CPD for 2025 and complete 35 hours in 2026 and 2027
- Complete the ethics e-learning module

Annual CPD
To achieve and maintain Chartered Membership, you'll need to complete 35 hours of CPD each year.

Maintaining your Chartered Status
To maintain Chartered Membership, you'll need to:
- remain an active member of LIBF
- adhere to the LIBF Code of Ethics
- complete annual 35 hour CPD requirements
- maintain the professional standards expected of Chartered Members.

Working alongside the London Foundation for Banking & Finance, we've introduced this route to make Chartered Membership more accessible to professionals working in the mortgage advice and trade and transaction banking spaces, where LIBF doesn't currently offer a Level 6 qualification. We know that many members have developed significant expertise through their qualifications, professional experience and ongoing learning. This route recognises that by providing an alternative pathway to Chartered status, while maintaining the high professional and ethical standards expected of Chartered Members.
No. This route has been specifically designed for eligible members who do not have access to a Level 6 qualification pathway through LIBF.
The route to Chartered Membership recognises the level of qualification you've already achieved. If you hold a higher-level LIBF qualification, you'll need fewer years of CPD because you've already demonstrated a greater depth of professional knowledge.
The module takes approximately 60 minutes to complete.
Yes, while this is a one-off requirement for Chartered Member status, you can count it towards your 35-hour annual CPD in the year you apply. We would encourage all Chartered Members to include other ethics content within their CPD each year, whether in the form of training or further reading.
Failure to meet CPD requirements may affect your ability to maintain Chartered Membership status.
If you're using the transitional arrangement to count your 2025 CPD towards Chartered Membership, we'll ask you to provide your CPD record after the scheme launches and before 31 December 2026. We'll let you know exactly how to submit it.

After you've become a Chartered Member, we may carry out checks on your CPD records as part of maintaining Chartered status.

If you apply after 1 December 2026, your required CPD should already be recorded in your myLIBF CPD log when you submit your application.
We'll accept CPD records from your employer or another system, provided they clearly demonstrate the learning activities you've completed and can be verified.
No. If you've achieved DipFA, your route to Chartered status is through the Advanced Diploma for Financial Advisers (Adv DipFA).

The Chartered Member pathway is only available in specialisms where LIBF does not currently offer a Level 6 qualification leading to Chartered status.
Yes. You can still join as a Member of LIBF and begin working towards Chartered Membership.

When you're ready, you can purchase and complete the Ethics e-learning module and continue your journey towards Chartered status.
